Unleash Your Adventurous Side with the Mighty Ram 1500 Big Horn!
Australians have swiftly embraced the Ram 1500, and the lineup has recently expanded with the introduction of the new Big Horn variant.
The Ram 1500 Big Horn shares its foundation with the already available DT model in Australia. It is powered by the same 5.7-liter naturally aspirated HEMI V8 engine, which delivers 291 kW (390 hp) and 556 Nm (410 lb-ft) of torque. This robust engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and incorporates the eTorque mild-hybrid technology, featuring cylinder deactivation and a Start/Stop function.
Prospective buyers interested in the 1500 Big Horn can choose between a 5’7” bed or a 6’4” bed. The truck boasts multiple tie-down points and a payload capacity of 900 kg (1,984 lbs). The 1500 Big Horn also excels in towing capabilities, with the ability to pull up to 4,500 kg (9,920 lbs). Additionally, the pickup is equipped with standard features like trailer sway control and hill-start assist, while sitting on a set of 18-inch wheels.
Although the Big Horn holds a place in the lower end of the local Ram 1500 lineup, it introduces several appealing features. These include convenient bed steps, an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an electric rear sliding cabin window, front and rear ParkSense park assist systems, heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an electro-chromatic rear-view mirror. The interior is fitted with cloth seats and a rear bench that can be folded in a 60/40 split.
In terms of pricing, the 5’7” model of the Big Horn starts from AU$119,950 ($76,909), excluding on-road costs. The 6’4” version is priced starting at AU$120,950 ($77,550).
Ram Trucks Australia's national manager, Jeff Barber, remarked, "Since 2015, we have successfully sold almost 25,000 RAMs across various regions, serving as purpose-built vehicles for tasks such as towing farm machinery, horse floats, caravans, boats, and more." He further added, "The RAM 1500 Big Horn, with its impressive maximum braked towing capacity of 4.5 tonnes, powerful 5.7-liter V8 HEMI engine, and optional longer bed, allows us to diversify our product range. It's a true workhorse, suitable for both job sites during the week and recreational activities like dirt biking on the weekends, capable of carrying two bikes or a 6ft ladder without needing to lower the tailgate."
